Letter, 4 Dec. 1781, Charleston, S.C., to Alexander Ross; reporting that Lord Cornwallis' baggage, including an extensive collection of wines, had been sent off to him, but had been captured; also reports on the financial situation regarding loyalist refugees and militia. Letter, 21 Jan. 178[2], Charleston, S.C., to Lt. McPherson; commending him on "the very proper measures" taken against the rebel forces, and urges him to keep watch in his sector and to expel from their plantations any families "who have joined the enemy."
